Windshield Wiper Replacement How-To

August 7th, 2023 by

Windshield wiper replacement can seem complicated, but it can be done at home. Just find the matching replacement wiper at our Honda dealership’s parts department and follow the steps for your vehicle. Alternatively, visit Pacific Honda for full service, including new wipers, to get back on the road quickly.

When to Replace Your Wipers

Windshield wipers are easy to overlook but essential to keeping you safe on the road. Changing your wipers every six months is recommended, but change them earlier if you notice they aren’t performing well, especially if you’re heading into a season where they get heavy use. When shopping for new wipers, as with any Honda parts, make sure they are compatible with your vehicle, and ask questions if you’re unsure about the correct components.

Replacing a Wipers

Activate your wipers and turn them off when they reach the apex of their arc. Pull the arms gently to the side until they lock in position at a right angle. Check your car’s manual to find the mechanism that disengages the wipers, which may be a simple tab or may require a screwdriver.

Now that the old wipers are out, time to put the new wipers in. If your vehicle has a hook-slot connector, slide the hook of the new wipers over the arms, then pull the blades upwards until you hear a click. Wipers with pin connectors are easy to attach, too: just place the arms in position and return the pin to its slot.
