Cars can change a lot from year to year, so some drivers shopping for the 2023 Honda Civic here at Pacific Honda ask us how it differs from the 2022 model. There aren’t too many changes — the 2023 model retains the same trusted reliability as its predecessors — but one returning option is sure to catch the eye of performance car lovers.

Upgrades for 2023

Honda completely revamped the Honda Civic for the 2022 model year. As a result, changes to the 2023 model are minimal. The sedan, hatchback, and Honda Civic Si trims aren’t getting any changes of note.

Initially, however, the trim level selection was different. The 2023 Honda Civic was no longer going to be available in the LX trim level, but now this more affordable model has been brought back to the market.

The Return of the Honda Civic Type R

The biggest change for the 2023 model year is that Honda Civic Type R is back after some time away from the market. This is a high-performance version of the Honda hatchback you know and love.

The 2023 Honda Civic Type R gets a more powerful 2.0-liter turbo engine for the new model year, giving it an output of 315 horsepower. The manual transmission has also received an upgrade, and the body sits lower and wider than previous models.

There has also been an effort to make this Honda Civic Type R more aerodynamic with equipment like flared fenders, a new diffuser, and a redesigned rear wing.
