How to Keep Your Honda AC Healthy

March 15th, 2024 by

While summer in San Diego is usually wonderfully mild, we can experience some unusually hot days. This is why you have to be sure your Honda AC is working just as it should. With the warmer months on the way, Pacific Honda offers tips that will help you keep your system in good condition.

Don’t Run the AC Before Driving

On really hot days, it’s tempting to turn your car on and crank the AC before driving. This may seem like a good way to cool your car, but it just puts a strain on the system. Instead, once you start driving, put the fan on high and open just the back windows, as this will force out the hot air.

Keep Your Car Clean

Over time, a lot of dirt and dust can accumulate in your car, and when it builds up, it can get into the air conditioning system and prevent it from working properly. This is why you should make a point to clean your vehicle — including vacuuming — on a regular basis. It is also a good idea to clean the cabin filter routinely and replace it when necessary.

Use the Defrost Mode

Every week, you should make a point to run your AC on defrost mode for at least 10 minutes. Run it on the coldest setting and at the highest fan speed. This will clean out any moisture to prevent mildew, and it also helps keep your compressor in good condition.
