Honda Takes Major EV Sustainability Step

We’re always adding new green vehicles to our lineup here at Pacific Honda, but that’s hardly the only thing the Honda brand is doing on the sustainability front. One material in particular concerns green car aficionados, and having the most eco-friendly way to source and use it has to be a priority for automakers. Fortunately, Honda Motor Co. recently inked a deal that would help it with its green car efforts while mitigating environmental harm.

A Deal with Ascend Elements

Honda entered a new agreement with Ascend Elements, an American company that works to recycle lithium-ion batteries and the resources used to make them. These batteries must be dealt with safely at the end of their lifespan, and the materials used to make them can find a second life in new electrified vehicles.

The benefit is twofold. Future Honda EVs and hybrids can be made more sustainably, and their batteries can be more safely dealt with when the cars they power reach the end of their lives.

A Part of a Larger Plan

This agreement is part of the brand’s “Triple Action to ZERO” concept, focusing on clean energy, carbon neutrality, and resource circulation. The Honda brand wants to develop a system that finds resources, builds new Honda cars, and recycles materials to create ZERO environmental impact by 2050.

This deal is a big part of hitting that 2050 target. It would help the automaker get the nickel, lithium, and cobalt it needs to build green vehicles in a more environmentally friendly way.
