The Accord Sedan is the only vehicle that earned a 5-star safety rating in each of NHTSA's combined safety rating categories. And that is quite an achievement, especially since the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has established new, more stringent NCAP standards.

Every Accord is designed to keep you on course and away from danger. Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) (1) helps sense oversteer or understeer in an emergency situation, and then adjusts brake pressure at each wheel and/or reduces engine power to help restore driver control and keep you on course. Standard 4-wheel anti-lock disc brakes (ABS), with Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), help you maintain control during hard braking. Properly inflated tires are crucial for safe operation, so the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) (2) alerts the driver when a tire's pressure reaches a significantly low level.

The Accord has been engineered to help protect you and your passengers when collisions just cannot be avoided. In-floor frame rails improve crashworthiness. And our Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure disperses frontal crash energy over a wide area, helping reduce the forces transferred to the passenger compartment.

Every Accord also features standard front, front side and side curtain airbags to help reduce the likelihood of injuries in a collision. The front side airbags employ a large two-chamber design, and the front passenger's side airbag uses the Occupant Position Detection System to prevent deployment if a child or small-statured passenger is out of position and in the airbag's path of deployment. And active front head restraints help reduce the likelihood of whiplash injuries in a sufficient rear impact.
